Now, I don’t profess to know much about poetry but I do have an opinion on it. Is that ok? Am I allowed? Of course I am.
I have been to quite a few reading / writing groups and have come away feeling incredibly uneducated and somewhat immature. Why? Because some people like to judge people on their tastes and seem to sort them in to some unknown hierarchy. Poetry snobbery is a thing and it’s not fair!
Who was it who said, “I don’t know much about art but I know what I like,” ?
When it comes to my own tastes in poetry, I prefer the use of rhyme and I love a good limerick! I enjoy silliness and humour in poems, particularly when it comes to children’s poetry. Pam Ayres is my favourite poet; her quick and witty poems never fail to raise a smile- something that is surely in short supply!
If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading Pam’s poetry, take a look:
Enjoy! I take my inspiration from Pam’s style and will be uploading a few pieces soon.
