Book review: 99 Red Balloons by Elisabeth Carpenter @LibbyCPT #amreading #bookblogger #bookreview

This is Elisabeth Carpenter’s debut novel. I’ve read quite a few debuts recently and haven’t been disappointed in the new talent on offer. 99 Red Balloons is no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Steph and her niece, Grace who has been abducted in broad daylight. Of course, everyone rallies around in the search for the 8 year old…except her grandma, who seems to take a long time to join the rest of her family.

In the meantime, an elderly lady named Maggie sees the family’s plight in the newspapers and is suddenly transported back to her own nightmarish experience.

Although I wouldn’t necessarily agree with the description of the ‘twist’ as such, I really enjoyed discovering what happened to the families involved. I particularly enjoyed the way relationships altered as the story progressed in ways that I wouldn’t have predicted.

An excellent debut that I would recommend for any book lover- there’s nothing not to enjoy!
