Book review: When you disappeared by John Marrs @johnmarrs1 #amreading #bookblogger #bookreview

I was first attracted to the book by the impressive 4.3 stars on Amazon from almost 1000 reviewers and was surprised that I hadn’t come across John Marrs sooner.

Catherine wakes up one morning to find her husband, Simon, has disappeared. Convinced he wouldn’t leave her, let alone their 3 children, she naturally fears the worst. The reader soon discovers the truth as the perspective changes between Catherine and Simon, who happens to be on the other side of the world building a new life for himself.

We gradually learn more about why Simon left as the author flits between the present and 25 year ago. We slowly learn more and more about Simon’s reasoning whilst Catherine rebuilds her own life without her husband.

The story is well-written and kept me interested right to the end. I can honestly say that I was surprised at how harrowing I found the book as it unravelled. I actually found it difficult to read but in the best possible way!

I look forward to reading other books from John Marrs.
