I’m sure many are thinking ‘library bargains? Doesn’t she know you can borrow books for free?’
Bare with me…
I read most books on my kindle, but just lately I’ve been hankering after the physical book. Now, I love a bargain so I went in to town to look what the charity shops had to offer. I was shocked! I picked up one particular dog-eared paperback which was published at least 5 years ago… £3.50! £3.50!
Don’t get me wrong, I would spend all of my money on books if I could, but is it just me who thinks that’s a bit steep for a second hand book? You can buy many in the 2 for £7 promotions in most supermarkets. I left quickly and may have swung by Greggs to get over my shock.
Fast forward to this morning, when I was taking my little boy to a singing group at our small local library. I always knew they sold ex library stock, but they also had a table full of nearly new books. The price? 25p each or 5 for £1, with the added bonus that all proceeds go towards maintaining the library.
So this bundle of books cost me the grand total of £1.50. I’m so pleased with my library bargains and will definitely be visiting again soon to see if they have any different titles.
If you haven’t visited your local library recently, why not pop in? You might just be surprised at what you find – I know I was! 📚
